5 Things to Do in the Park Before Labor Day!

As summer winds down, a handful of the park’s heritage sites begin to close for the season. This also includes some popular boat tours on the Thames River. Check out the latest blog for ideas on how to have some end of summer fun this week and through Labor Day Weekend!

Experience Thames River by Retired Naval Utility Boat

This marks the last weekend to experience a Sunset Cruise or Whaling Tales on the Thames, Mohegan Life on the Thames and Military on the Thames historic boat tours. 

The last weekend for the Hop On, Hop Off Harbor Cruise will be September 8th-9th over the CT Maritime Heritage Festival Weekend. The last Full Moon Cruise of the fall will be October 17th.

Visit Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park

The state park grounds may be open all year round, but interactive tours of the Monument Museum & being able to climb the steps of the Groton Monument wrap up the first weekend of September. Both open occasionally to the public for special events during the year.

Tour the Ebenezer Avery House 

This Revolutionary War landmark is located between the Thames River and the battlefield of Fort Griswold. Add this tour to your weekend itinerary when you visit Groton Heights or the Bill Memorial Library.

Experience a Service at Pequot Chapel

The last summer service at this historic chapel is Sunday, September 1st and led by Reverend Maria Hammons, Associate to the Bishop, from New England Lutheran Church. Another opportunity to visit will be during special events held in September and December.

Visit Fort Trumbull State Park & Visitor Center

Take a self-guided tour in the professionally curated history museum, walk within the fort walls and take in the views of the Thames River! Park grounds and the fishing pier are accessible all year round. You can also catch the Hop On, Hop Off Harbor Cruise at this location!
